At age 9 I was forced into an Australian wide art competition and next to getting married and raising a family, it was the most life changing and rewarding event in my life. I came second, so that was the beginning of a life time journey.
Due to business and work commitments, I decided to withdraw from all competition and practice painting weekends and holidays for a period of about 10 yrs, in hindsight I should have kept competing.
Illness forced me into an early retirement and so my art career moved forward. I mainly paint in watercolors, I do find oils tire me out quickly and the toxic fumes don’t help either. Watercolor is however my greatest love, it’s very exciting and demanding, anything can happen.
I now work with, and absolutely love Chroma’s new paint, AM. It is brilliant and has passed exhaustive tests and come up a champion.
What I normally do is paint it as a watercolor and if it’s not a success in my estimation, I use AM paint like oils, without the toxic smells. It is completely water-soluble.
I can’t help myself, everyday I’m excited about the prospect of painting Gods creations, the wonderful landscapes or seascapes, there for me to create my own original designs, it’s exhilarating, challenging and rewarding.
I am represented in private collections in The UK, USA, FRANCE, AFRICA and JAPAN. I have also won a number of awards.
I have won the following Meleny Art Awards; 2000 commended, 2001 Third prize and 2003 commended.
In 2003 I came second in an Exhibition for The Royal Queensland Art Society for oil painting.
First prize for watercolor at the 2005 Royal National Show [ The Ekka].
Since buying rickshaws for Indian families, my art continues to win awards and improve. And after seeing how the Salvation Army helps the addicted and the lost, I will be giving a percentage of every sale to them as well.
It is awe inspiring to see people renew their lives. It recharges my life and keeps me positive.
So please take this opportunity to share in my work and view my creations. I hope you find delight in viewing what I have created with the utmost delight and enthusiasm.
GOD bless you all, Alan
